Reviews of the Stooge Brothers
Atlanta blues musicians: The Stooge Brothers
Last Sunday at the Atlanta Blues Society meeting, I got to see the Stooge Brothers perform. What a treat!
This is not slow blues or sad blues. This is high-energy, stir it up and shake it blues! These guys know how to play and sing: from guitar to bass to keyboard to drums to some smoking blues harp, they keep it tight and together.
Among my favorite performances in a killer set were "Keys to the Highway" and a stellar version of Sam Cooke's "Bring It on Home to Me."
Not every member was at the performance on Sunday, but according to the website, the band usually consists of Kevin "Moe" Sullivan, Mark "Larry" Scarbrough, Dave "Curly" Rich, Jack "Curly Joe" Parillo, John "Shemp" Todd, Randy Elliott, Jerry Mason, and Doug Sako.
Given the high energy and rock-blues orientation of the set, it is no surprise to learn that The Stooge Brothers also perfom as a Clapton Tribute band, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, and a Jimi Hendrix Tribute band.
This band plays regularly all over town, including Limerick Junction, Blind Willie's, Fat Matt's, Two Urban Licks, and just about anywhere else that ever features blues. Check out their Facebook page to see where they are playing next and keep up with their news.
Go to see The Stooge Brothers play somewhere soon. I highly recommend them.

The guys really stepped up and played a great 4+ hour set at our wedding.
They helped with the transitions to the speeches and all the other parts of the
wedding. We couldn't be happier. Most importantly, the music kicked a$$! Thanks
Stooge Brothers!

It was WOW motorcycles 20th Anniversary, and they went all out to celebrate, including music by The Stooge Brothers. I happen to love motorcycles, so we took my twin grandsons, who are 11, out to see the bikes, the free stunt show and The Stooge Brothers.
The band sounded fantastic. They just cooked for the entire set. Playing from the balcony while people wandered below among the gorgeous bikes, eating free hot dogs and lusting after Harleys, Hondas and Triumphs (at least, that is what I was doing) they gave every song 100% just as though they were playing in front of a seated audience. The standout song for me was "I Got My Mojo Working," but they rocked on every single song. It wasn't really the setting for slow blues, so they kept it upbeat and steady.
WOW did an awesome job with their celebration, from the free stuff to the great music to the stunt show, which was amazing even after one of the two riders had a flat tire while standing the bike straight up in the air. I have included some pictures of the stunt show in the slideshow for you!
Altogether, proof once again that bikes and blues go together, and that The Stooge Brothers are a great blues band, no matter where you see them.
Oh yea, and

November
27 2011, Wedding in Atlanta ..
Thank you so much for helping make our reception such a great time! Everyone was constantly raving about how awesome you all were and asking where we found you! Even during my father daughter dance my dad said many people had already come up to him complementing him on the band choice and how awesome you all sounded. Thanks for making our wedding so special! Thank you so much again to you and all of your members! You guys rocked!!
And in a follow-up message:
The Stooge Brothers were absolutely fantastic to listen to, work with, and accommodate our needs! The band even learned a few songs in their genre for us that we requested, including our first dance song, which they absolutely blew us away with. As soon as we arrived to our reception (the band had already been playing good 30 minutes) friends and family immediately came up to us just raving about how wonderful the band was. They did a fabulous job and met all of our request and needs, as well as introduced us and helped with all the announcements of what was about to happen, such as leaving, cake cutting, etc. I highly recommend The Stooge Brothers to everyone!

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen - have seen them at Blind Willie's
two times now - met Commander Cody (George Frayne) at Blind Willie's in

them - they put on a great show. |

|
The Shadows of Knight, www.shadowsofknight.com/ -
saw them Oct 25 2006 at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. The orignal band members were from my hometown of Arlington
Heights, Ill - they had a big hit with Gloria; a true garage band that
covered a number of blues tunes and turned them into Rock and Roll
songs. Gloria is one of the first songs I ever learned to play on
guitar and have been playing it ever since. It was great to meet Jimy Sohns, the lead singer and
who is the only original band member still with the band. |
